Mycology

Mycology

The Mycology department is equipped with specialized incubators, phase-contrast microscopes, laminar flow hoods, and selective culture media. This unit employs culture on selective media, staining techniques (Lactophenol Cotton Blue, PAS, Calcofluor White), biochemical assays, and molecular methods (PCR and ITS sequencing) to identify a wide range of pathogenic fungi including Aspergillus (A. fumigatus, A. flavus, A. niger), Candida (C. albicans, C. tropicalis), Cryptococcus, Penicillium, Fusarium, and dermatophyte agents. Early diagnosis of fungal infections such as Aspergillosis, Candidiasis, and Mucormycosis, along with mycotoxin monitoring in feed, are among the key services of this unit.
